Whippet Handcrafted: Our Commitment
At Whippet Handcrafted, our mission is to create sustainable, durable, and highly playable instruments for musicians who value quality and environmental responsibility.
Collaboration at Every Step
We believe that every instrument should be as unique as its owner. That’s why we work closely with each client throughout the entire design and build process, listening to your ideas and preferences to ensure the final instrument is tailored to your style, needs, and playing comfort. This partnership is at the heart of what we do, and we celebrate the individuality of every musician we work with.
Instruments Built to Be Played
Our instruments are made to be played, not just admired! We design and build for real-world use; robust construction, carbon-fibre reinforcement, secure neck joints, top-quality hardware, and proven electronics mean every Whippet Handcrafted instrument is ready for the rigours of touring and regular performance. We love to see our instruments showing the marks of a life on stage, working as hard as their owners and telling the story of music made and shared.
Sustainable Timbers
We exclusively use Queensland native timbers, sourced from reclaimed materials, FSC-approved plantations, and salvaged trees—never from old-growth forests or unknown sources. These timbers are renowned for their tone, durability, and beauty, and have been trusted by leading instrument makers for decades.
Natural Finishes
Our hand-applied finishes are clear and transparent, accentuating the natural beauty of the wood. We use durable, environmentally friendly stain, oils and waxes that are safe for both builders and owners. These finishes are extremely durable and easy to maintain and repair, allowing each instrument to age gracefully and develop character over time. Instructions for periodic maintenance are provided with every instrument.

Also note the gratuitous and manipulative picture of Barney, one of our workshop mascots. Hoping the “Nyaawwwhhh!” factor will pay some kind of dividends, not really sure what.
