Here in our family workshop in Samford Valley, we use sustainably-sourced Queensland timbers to create basses and guitars of distinction. Built tough for hardworking musos, each instrument is created individually using timeless methods of hand tools, traditional craftspersonship and freakin power tools.

  • "Filthy Silky" 6-String Guitar

“Favourite guitar in my collection. Mark’s workmanship is impeccable, the timbers are gorgeous and the instrument is such a pleasure to play. I thoroughly enjoyed every interaction with Mark along the journey”

  • Twin "Stinger" 5-String Basses

“My two basses are light, lively, and incredibly responsive. I love their warmth and weight of the sound - a full, fat fundamental that retains all the edge definition to provide to find a perfect spot in the mix. They are beautifully balanced too, easily handling long gigs without fatigue; modern, “can’t-miss” instruments capable of anything I throw at them.

Working with Mark is just as impressive. His attention to detail and real-world understanding of what a touring instrument should be — flights, freight, hard miles and plenty of gigs — results in truly tour-grade, no-compromise instruments.”

Jason C, owner of identicical-twin Stinger-style basses, one fretted and one fretless.

  • "Ember" 5-String Bass

"I've found Whippet Handcrafted instruments to be a beautiful balance of art and science. Years of playing mass-produced instruments left me with preconceived notions about the way a guitar 'had' to be built, but these were challenged through the build process with Whippet, and paired with Mark's attention to detail and high standards this lead to a versatile, unique and personal instrument being created. There is a real story and soul to my Whippet Handcrafted bass and it's a delight and honour to play 'Ember' at every opportunity." Ellen @ellenmakesnoise
